Shortly before Walker's birthday we (Sarah, Jason, the kids and myself) all ran a 5K race in our neighborhood. Sarah and I pushed Ellie in one jogging stroller while Jason and Walker took off ahead of us. It was tons of fun and we definitely want to do another one soon. After the race they had hot dogs, chips, energy drinks, ice cream sandwiches and bounce houses for everyone to enjoy. Jason was the first to cross the finish line with a stroller. I came across the line at about 19:37 minutes and Sarah was somewhere around 30 minutes or longer. Sarah was hurting pretty bad so I had a energy drink for her right when she crossed the line. I felt a little sorry for her but she said she had been running so I couldn't really understand the pain. We have pictures of the race that I will post.
We have also been trying desperately to finish our kitchen remodel. Jason and I work on it pretty much every night after the kids go to bed. We have saved a ton of money by doing a lot of the work ourselves but it has not been easy. It is very exhausting. We still have some touch up painting to do and to install hardware on our cabinets.
We had the kids birthday party on May 16th. I figure I can get away with a combined birthday party for a few more years so I am taking advantage of it while I can. We had planned on renting a bounce house for the party but when Jason got back from California we decided, instead of getting a bounce house we would invest in a Sky Fort Swing Set for the kids. We thought, we would go get it on Sunday and have it up in time for the party that next Saturday, all while trying to finish the kitchen in time for the party! We are so in over our heads!!! So it all starts like this... We don't have a truck anymore but I am pretty sure we can get these four boxes and a slide in the back of the Tahoe if we take the kids seats out and pull the third seats out. Jason does not believe we can so we are in a bit of a pickle. We end up renting a truck from home depot and get all four boxes and a slide home. Each box weighs 220 lbs. That is a bunch of wood!!! When we start reading the instructions is says "with two highly skilled men it will take 20 to 24 hours to assemble"! There were a few choice words mumbled and then we got to work. Luckily we have some really great friends in the neighborhood that came over to help. Jason, Michael and Bob worked on the Sky Fort every night after everone got home from work and spent a little time with their family. We "finished" the swing set late late Friday night. I think Jason may have even put some pieces on Saturday morning. It was a mess, I tell you. We saw a guy in Sam's just this weekend buying the Sky Fort, a case of diapers and two cases of beer. We told him he needed more beer!! The party was a blast and the swing set was a hit. All the kids had a great time! From the time Ellie gets up in the morning to the time she goes to bed she is constantly asking to swing. She has even fallen asleep in the swing twice. I have many pictures of the sky fort to post.
We had a really good Memorial Day weekend. We finished hanging up the light that goes over the sink, and a BBQ every night but Sunday night and just tried to relax as much as we could. This week I have to get Ellie ready to go to my parents house for a week. She is flying up there with Sarah and Haley and staying the whole week. I have not been away from her for that long so I am a little nervous about it but I know she will have a great time. Walker is staying here with us. I am not sure I remember what having one child feels like so it should be a bit of an adjustment for us.
So now it is a little past 10:00 and I am too tired to post all the pictures. I will get them organized and post them tomorrow, I promise. Jason is still trying to fix the sink and we have to move the cars in the garage and clean the house for the week. Someday we will get back to a less stressful life, I am just not sure when that will be!!!
Small note: This is Wende's blog! Is Sarah wants to let everyone know her version of the 5k race she will comment or start her own blog! For now that is how I remember the race going! :)
